The Hillsides
The hillsides of Koh Sichang are dotted with splendid, colourful homes. The lack of high-rise condos and mega hotels give the island a small town feel. The narrow streets are lined with small Chinese-style shop houses with locals selling their wares, and the pace of life is as mellow as the island is beautiful.
Koh Loi Pier
From Koh Loi Pier, catch the ferry to Koh Sichang. The ferry leaves every hour and should take approximately 45 minutes to reach the island.
Grandfather Hermit cave
Interestingly, one of the places of worship. Situated on the way to pay homage to the foot print of Buddha which is situated on the mountain top.
Buddha's Footprint
This religious shrine is located on the top of a hill named San Chao Pho Khao Yai, a few hundred metres above the grand Chinese temple.
San Jao Phaw Khao Yai
A grand Chinese temple set high on a cliff. Within the complex are many caves and an amazing cultural relic known as Buddha's Footprint.
Mai Rim Thalay - Summer Palace
This vibrant house was built sometime during the reign of King Chulalongkorn, and was used to house royal visitors and members of the Thai royal family who travelled to Koh Sichang to seek treatment for their ailments.
Ruan Vadhana - Summer Palace
Once used as a convalescent home for the family of King Chulalongkorn, this quaint rectangular building was then used to house both Thai and foreign royal guests. It was built right on the beach, and now features an informative exhibition detailing the rich history of the island.
Marble Fountain - Tree Boys
The marble used from this handsome fountain, located in Ruan Vadhana, was sourced from Italy at the request of King Rama V. The fountain was originally located in Tamarind Hill and was abandoned for many years. It was eventually found, restored and put on display within Ruan Vadhanna.
Phra Chudadhut Palace
The remnants of King Rama V's summer palace. The main structure was moved to Bangkok in 1910, yet several Victorian-style structures and gardens remain.
Maha Nodadt Pond
This exquisite freshwater pool was built as a private bath for King Rama V. When viewed from above, the pool is shaped like a heart, and the bottom of the pool is shaped like an inverted droplet of water.
Wat Atsadang Nimit
This unique temple features a mix of gothic and classical Thai architecture, and holds a small consecrated chamber that was the private meditation sanctuary of King Chulalongkorn.
Bell Stone
Located on the right hand side between the Palace and Wat Asdangkhanimtr, the Bell Stone is a natural rock formation in the shape of a frog. If you hit the Bell Stone with a rock it rings like a bell. To the right of the Bell Stone is an old photogenic Chedi.
Beach beside Atsadang Bridge
White sand beach beside The Atsadang Bridge. The bridge extends into the palace grounds. The bridge was used as a wharf for King Rama V on his return from his visit to France.
Thaa Wang Beach
Long white beaches, tranquil stretches of water with small rocks beneath the surface, overlooking the beautiful clear sea.
Asdang Bridge
King Chulalongkorn used his personal funds to build this bridge to celebrate the recovery of his son Prince Asdang Dejavudh.
The sea around Koh Sichang
Most beaches around the island are dotted with many jagged rocks scattered underwater. But with the peaceful atmosphere, and the clear blue water’s green irridescence, it attracts many tourists.
Chong Khao Khad
A picturesque public park featuring an elevated promenade and several pavilions. The park offers amazing views of the island’s striking topography and is a ideal spot to watch the sun set.
Taam Pang Beach
An alluring beach with few tourist, and vendors selling great snacks.
Rama V Memorial - Summer Palace
To commemorate the life and works of Kind Rama V, a shrine was built in his honour on the grounds of Phra Chudadhut Palace. King Rama V built many public works projects on Koh Sichang, including bridges, schools, parks, the freshwater dock, the lighthouse and the main road that circles the island. As a testament to his works, the people of Koh Sichang constructed a statue of the monarch and many people make offering to the shrine on a regular basis.
Koh Phai (Bamboo Island)
Activities on the island: The island has a long beach walk or a paddle through the shallows; snorkel or dive at the coral reef. There is no public boat available from Koh Sichang but you can hire a speed-boat for your trips. The island is under the protection of the Navy. The trip takes about one hour from the shrine. Some tourists rent speedboats or yachts boats to moor near the beach in order to snorkel and swim in private. Bamboo Island beach is a white-sand with crystal clear waters.
